Who Are We
CDDO (Community Development and Development Organization) is a non-profit organization registered with the Ministry of Economy of Afghanistan under the NGO law. Our mission is to empower community members to create prosperous communities by addressing systemic issues, not just symptoms. We aim to create an environment where both men and women can drive genuine, lasting change towards sustainable development, ensuring that all community members benefit equally from sustainable livelihood activities and have access to basic services.
Our team is composed of experienced members from the Citizens' Charter National Priority Program (CCNPP), also known as the Citizens' Charter Afghanistan Project (CCAP), and the National Solidarity Program (NSP). With a proven track record of community development through the Community Development Councils (CDCs) in over 36,000 communities across Afghanistan, CDDO is dedicated to maintaining this extensive network. We are committed to retaining the project management capacity built over the past 20 years through initiatives like NSP, CCNPP, MCCG, and REACH Projects.
Our History
Since its establishment in 2021, CDDO has remobilized around 1,000 CDCs across different regions of Afghanistan, empowering them to implement hundreds of community projects in areas such as emergency response, livelihood support, shelter, water supply, cash for work, winterization, digital cash transfers, and online education for girls. We have also conducted surveys and data collection for research projects in various provinces and districts.
CDDO's team includes experienced engineers and social organizers who have been implementing cash-for-work projects since 2015 under NSP and CCAP. In the past three years, CDDO has executed over 1,300 cash-for-work projects worth more than USD 24 million. These projects have generated approximately 3.3 million labor days for over 120,000 rural households, directly benefiting 840,000 people in 19 provinces of Afghanistan. We use participatory, learning, and action tools to identify and target eligible beneficiary households, ensuring that the targeting system is for vulnerable households.
